Miracle – 18 year old Standardbred (Owner Janine Callaghan)
Miracle was given to me by a retired couple who no longer had the strength to care for her. She had become a pasture ornament to them. When I first got her she was skinny, no muscle tone, dull coat and the typical hay belly due to poor diet. Soon after moving her to her new barn she tried jumping a fence and cut herself severely all over her legs and managed to rapture her peroneus tertius, an important apparatus that coordinates the flexion and extension of the stifle and hock. The vet couldn’t do anything for her and recommended that she be euthanized. I kindly declined and started Structural Integration on her, accompanied by ultrasound, icing 4-5 times a day, cold hosing, bandages and hand walking a little bit everyday. After her 3rd session the tendon, which had that typical zig-zagging look to it (a quick diagnose for this injury), started straitening up and she was able to walk a little further every day. Finally after a year of rehab work, lots of tlc and patience she was back in full training and stronger than every. She build up her top line and filling up with muscle and turned out to be a well structured aligned horse.
Miracle is my everyday inspiration to help horses be all they can be. To give them back their natural free range of motion for more power, grace and speed.
Structural Integration is hands-on bodywork that honours the body, spirt and soul of the horse.
